How to Refresh Your Wardrobe

Ellie tells us how to revamp your wardrobe for 2020

In spite of my adoration for fashion and my love for finding new trends, I am not always the best at being adventurous with my own wardrobe. I am quite loyal to my black jeans and hoodies. There isn’t very much excitement nor daring in my chest of drawers. That being said, I do get bored of my modest style. I often have mornings where I spend too long looking in my wardrobe, hoping something new and exciting will just suddenly appear in front of me. With that in mind, I wanted to compile a list of strategies to awaken your wardrobe, that don’t involve a complete overhaul, because who can afford that?! Here are five helpful tips to refresh your wardrobe in this new year.

1. Try a New Style of Jeans

I have been loyal to the skinny jean for a fair few years, and I think my love affair with them might be coming to a sorry end. Trying a new style of jeans is a very simple method to reinvent the rest of your wardrobe. You will see your t-shirt and jumper collection in completely new light once you pair them with a different style of jeans. Flares are right on trend just now; mom jeans and patterned trousers are also having a strong moment. Swapping your go-to pair of jeans with any of these options will soon have you strutting your stuff like a new person.

2. Add a New Colour to Your Wardrobe

If your wardrobe usually consists of one shade, perhaps it’s mostly black, blues or pinks, spurs up your style with a new, bold colour. I quite normally go through phases where I’m attracted to a certain colour, lately grey, until I suddenly realise it’s all I’ve got! A good way of trying out a new shade, I think, is through knitwear. Since it’s still winter weather, and it will be probably till May, a new sweater will get plenty use this year. Most shops, even the accessible H&M, have a great range of knitwear in either bold solid colours or bright patterns. Even though not all shades will suit your skin tone, there is no harm in trying out something new. If you give a colour you wouldn’t normally choose a chance, you just might find your perfect colour or your new favourite!

3. Give Daywear Dresses and Skirts a Go

If you are often reaching for jeans or leggings, don’t forget that dresses and skirts can be as perfect for the library as the 601. A pinafore dress, a denim skirt or floral midi skirt (for the rare, dry and calm days of weather we get in St Andrews) will feel like a novelty in your week of jeans. Styled right, skirts and day dresses will help you feel a bit smarter than your usual style, without you looking like you’re on your way to a job interview. My personal favourite is a skirt with a striped top and boots. A look like that helps me feel a bit more confident and special than the days when I barely manage to swap my pyjama bottoms for a pair of sports leggings.

4. Revamp Your Accessories Collection

A new scarf, a new pair of earrings or even a fancy looking scrunchy is a small way to bring a new sparkle to your wardrobe. Adding a pop of colour to a monochrome look with some fun earrings or trying a new style of sunglasses (might be a pointless suggestion, do we ever see the sun for long enough to justify buying sunglasses here?!) will add a new dimension to your usual look. Some nice jewels or even, as the trend continues to grow, a pretty headband will help you step up your everyday style.

5. Play With Your Beauty Look

In a similar vein to the accessories tactic, trying something new with your makeup is an inexpensive way help you feel fresh. A new shade of lipstick with your everyday look, a slick of eyeliner to help you feel extra sassy or taking a little extra time in your morning routine to do any eyeshadow look will have you feeling brand-new and will help you see your wardrobe in a different light.

I hope that these small steps will help to revitalise your wardrobe if you’ve been feeling it looks a bit lacklustre of late. Here’s to a new year of new looks and fashion bravery, because why not?!

  1. Another thing I have really noticed is that often for many people, poor credit is the response to circumstances past their control. One example is they may happen to be saddled with illness and as a consequence they have high bills going to collections. Maybe it’s due to a work loss or inability to do the job. Sometimes divorce proceedings can really send the money in the undesired direction. Many thanks sharing your notions on this web site.
