Our Deputy Events Editor reviews The Other Ball.

Following a year of triumph and successes, St. Andrews’ most prolific acapella group once again proved that they know exactly how to put on a night like no other in St. Andrews. Held in the Lower and Upper College Halls on the thirteenth of October, the 2nd annual “The Other Ball” satisfied guests and elevated the name of the Other Guys higher than ever before. The ball not only celebrated the past, present and future success of The Other Guys, but also supported one of the UK’s leading mental health charities, Heads Together.

Those lucky family and friends who were invited by The Other Guys enjoyed a champagne reception, three course dinner, a seemingly endless supply of wine, after-party, and – of course – plentiful acapella. Differing from last year, those who didn’t attend the sit-down dinner were able to purchase after-party tickets. With a live band, acapella performances and a DJ, guests were extremely satisfied with the continuous entertainment throughout the night.

Surrounded by their closest friends and family, the past and present members of the Other Guys joined their voices together in perfect harmonies twice in the night, crooning out their classic hits such as “It’s Raining Men”, “St. Andrews Girls” and “Fix You.” Each table of ten guests was themed to a specific Other Guys song such as “Backstreet’s Back”, “I See You” and “Royal Romance,” with complimentary copies of their records provided as party favours.

The night was a true celebration of all that the Other Guys have accomplished in the past year; a North American tour, a successful show at the Fringe and a new popular single – 24k Megan. This, their fifteenth year at St. Andrews, is sure to be another one for the books – with 5 new members joining the ranks.

The exclusivity of the invite to the dinner and intimate venue, hosting just 150 people, resulted in an extremely familial and close night. Undeniably, The Other Ball was flawlessly executed. Guests departed the hall around 1 AM with their ears left ringing, reminiscing on a fantastic night and already hungering for their next Other Guys experience.
