The St Andrews players kept their work rate high in the second half, showing a clear determination to get back in the game and, as a result, had their share of chances. The addition of James Thompson coming off the bench added some fresh pace to St Andrews’ attack and troubled the Heriot-Watt defence. Despite extremely close chances, the Saints were unable to pull through as Heriot-Watt was determined to see out the game. Heriot-Watt continued to play well and slowed down the pace of the game at any possible point, making things even more difficult for the Saints. In spite of St Andrews’ immense effort, the match stayed 2-0 and saw the Saints exit the cup. This defeat marks the fourth for St Andrews’ fours, however, the players continue to stay positive at practice and know results from their efforts will come soon.
Elsewhere in football, the men’s 6th team won at home 5-4 on penalties after coming back from 3-1 down to draw 3-3 in the cup against Aberdeen’s 4th team. Unfortunately, the men’s 3rd team lost 4-0 away to Heriot-Watt’s 2nd team. The women’s 1st and 3rd team also played at home on Wednesday, with the 1st team winning 1-0 against Edinburgh’s 2nd team and the 3rd team losing to Edinburgh’s 3rd team 7-3. Overall it was a mixed day for the Saints, with success for some teams while others were forced to accept defeat.
