Five Things To Do This Week
The Stand helps you make the most of Freshers’ Week 2016.
1. Opening Ball ticket sales
The unofficial launch event of Semester One, Opening Ball is consistently a high point of the year. Traditional and groundbreaking all at once, the event welcomes both freshers and returning students to the hallowed ground of Lower College Lawn. Tickets can be purchased well in advance in person outside the Union or through the Union’s website.
2. Right To Roam album launch
The Other Guys have long been considered St Andrean icons. A brand new album, free at Tuesday night’s launch event, is not a happening to miss. The much-hyped TOG cocktail could make for an excellent pre-drink before hitting up The Lizard.
3. The Lizard ft. Leon Hay
Usually open only on Fridays or Saturdays, The Lizard has turned on the dancefloor every night this week in celebration of Freshers’. Tuesday night will be one of underground, funky fun with the help of guest DJ Leon Hay.
4. DONT WALK Music Opening Night
Whether you are an aspiring artist or just a fan, The Vic is the place to be this Thursday for the launch of the DONT WALK Charity Fashion Show’s newest venture, DW Music. Featuring sets from DONT WALK’s own talented DJs, the event advertises itself as a night of fresh sounds and plenty of opportunities for would-be musicians.
5. The Bop
It’s been on the Union’s lineup for over twenty years. The Bop is classic fun, featuring topical songs and hundreds of dancing students. The yearly Freshers’ Bop is particularly noteworthy, simply because after a long week of variety acts, it’s nice to groove without pretence in the purple lighting of Club 601.
