Upon returning to St Andrews, many students were struck by the closed doors of Tony Macaroni. The relatively recent addition to town has quietly closed down. It will be replaced in the coming months by Mozza, another name that falls under the Tony Macaroni group’s umbrella.
It seems that Bell Street is no friend to Italian chains: Bella Italia, the former resident of Tony Macaroni’s site, closed in 2014.
Mozza’s draw lies in its unique layout. Guests will be able to watch their Neapolitan pizzas bake in a wood-fired oven, a gimmick not found anywhere else in St Andrews.
“We think the market in St Andrews would appreciate something different,” Stephanie Yapp, the firm’s representative, told the Evening Telegraph.
Mozza is due to open in three months.
