St Feuddrews has quickly become a stalwart of social media at the university, the go-to page for all of the latest gossip. The Stand explores the powerhouse behind the feuds.
What inspired you to start the page, and did you ever expect it to gain this much traction?
The idea was given to me by a friend of mine who attended Cambridge because the Oxfeud page is pretty big down there, and since St Andrews didn’t have its own version at the time, I decided to start one up. I did not expect it to get as big as it did, and it now just keeps getting bigger and bigger.
What’s the funniest/best feud you’ve ever posted?
That’s a difficult choice, but my personal favourite has to be the recent ones about STEM as they are a very contentious point.
Are there any submissions you can’t post for any reason?
I tend not to post submissions that are very directed towards a specific individual, or posts that are too controversial and could hurt the page. Other than that, anything goes.
What exactly are you trying to accomplish?
I essentially started this for the banter and just to see how it would turn out, but since then it has become essentially place where people can say how they truly feel about certain aspects of what is going on around them anonymously. The page has become more serious of late but at the end of the day, it’s a place where people can relate to what they read hopefully find it funny.
Have you ever received submissions that you think are about you?
I have received a few that are about me, they are no more serious than the majority of posts on the page so I just publish them anyway.
Can you tell us a bit more about you as a person? What are your hobbies and passions? Are you a massive antagonist in real life?
I can be a bit of an antagonist in real life, but it’s just how I am so most people don’t mind too much. I spend most of my time working on my degree and I generally just party more than I should. I’m really just a student who happened to be in the right place in order to start up this page. In order to do this I have to be alert over what is happening on the page, just so my response time is quick in order to deal with problems.
Any advice for people currently feuding? What’s the best way to deal with it?
Depends on the feud, if it is a serious issue then get in contact with the right people and who can do the most to fix the problem. No matter how serious the feud can also be submitted here as well. If the feud is just funny or minor then the person can submit it here and see how it is received by the audience of the page. The best way to move through it is just to get it sorted as soon as possible.
