On The Rocks, the United Kingdom’s largest student-run arts festival, is currently accepting applications for events from all interested parties until Sunday, 18 November. Both students and St. Andrews residents are welcomed to apply to be a part of the festival which is held from the 5th to the 14th of April 2019.
There’s no exact definition of what a “perfect” On The Rocks is, as long as creativity and enthusiasm are involved. Sought after arts events can occupy a whole host of topics, ranging from music to drama, art and photography exhibitions, interactive events or food. Collaborations between societies and elements/organisations within the town, furthering ‘Town and Gown’ participation are warmly welcomed as well, and interested applicants are welcomed to draw inspiration from previous events.
Last year’s festival saw On The Rocks facilitate over 30 events, ranging from a Shakespearean production of Twelfth Night, Music Cafés, acapella performances, the iconic ceilidh in the castle and the popular production of Sweeney Todd. On The Rocks are seeking original applications with realistic, yet ambitious goals. Strong financial backing and organisation are key as events are self-funded and self-run. Applicants are recommended to apply through societies or organisations so as to best utilise pre-existing structures and organisation to put on well-run events. If an event is to charge admission, there is an application fee of £20 and those that will be open entry can apply at no charge. On The Rocks has stressed that they will be on hand to support all successful applicants in order to ensure that all events run smoothly. Those chosen will enjoy the aid of OTR with publicity and the use of their press team. Tickets will also be administered through On The Rocks themselves. Interested parties are advised to either attend the OTR Programming office hours held 2-4pm on Wednesdays in Main Bar, or to email Sarah Greenberg, Head of Programming, at email@example.com for guidance before submitting their online application.
