The Fine Food & Dining Society are currently running their premier food photography competition in the town, integrating the student population with local businesses and producers to support St Andrews’ Town & Gown values. The Fine Food & Dining Society is St Andrews’ oldest food-focused society, engaging the student body on all levels by presenting a multitude of events throughout the academic term. In the past year alone there have been potlucks, cooking classes, a jazzy Christmas drinks party at The Adamson, and a highly-acclaimed murder mystery dinner during the Martinmas semester held at Hotel Du Vin. The current society project is a food photography competition aimed at getting students to experiment with their creative side and snap some of their favourite dishes.
The image must capture the essence of St. Andrews, either from a shop or restaurant in town, and must represent the town in some form. The competition also aims to get people involved with local businesses for ingredients and inspiration – shopping local is the best way to support our town! Prizes for the top three images have been sourced around the town with many from the society’s generous sponsors. The 3rd place prize is a £10 gift card from the lovely IJ Mellis cheesemonger on South Street; one of the runners-up can satisfy their cheese craving to reward their hard work. Second place will be awarded a beautifully paired bottle of wine donated by Luvians Bottle Shop. With the grand prize still to be unveiled, keep an eye on the event page on the Fine Food & Dining Society Facebook page and get your entry in before midnight Sunday 24th of February. If this has tickled your fine food taste buds the society are also running a trip to nearby Kingsbarns Distillery for a great value gin tasting. More details of both events are available on the society Facebook page.
