St Andrews Students Egged by Local Schoolchildren
Several incidents have been reported.
Egging incidents have been taking place around St Andrews; targeting university students and their homes, public areas and locals. It is believed that these various attacks were carried out by students of the local school, Madras College.
The actions of the local students date back to the start of the academic year, with the most recent attack at the start of February. The victims of these incidents have asked to stay anonymous.
One victim of several egging attacks last autumn reports that the attacks would take place after dark – any time between “5 pm and 9 pm.” The victim continues to disclose the little information they know about the perpetrator; local boys, often on their bikes or scooters.
The victim and their housemates reported an egging attack on their house as soon as the event took place. The police arrived within two hours and promised to patrol the area, while stating there was little they could do as “no property was damaged.” The incident repeated again before Christmas, where the young attackers resorted to throwing stones at the student’s house, instead of eggs. Again, this attack was reported but with little action was taken by the police.
The victim commented on the situation: “It is awful that these kids have nothing better to do than throw eggs at houses (I’ve heard about them throwing eggs at people as well). I think that since the police seem to know, their parents should be held responsible as they seem quite young, maybe twelve to fifteen. They should pay for the window to be cleaned, or alternatively make the kids do some sort of community work or provide entertainment as they seem to have nothing else.”
The attacks didn’t stop there. Some first year students complained of an egging attack near the University hall of residence, Agnes Blackadder, on Thursday 9th February. The students described the attackers as sounding “pretty Scottish” and wearing “hoodies and snapbacks.”
Following a night out at 2 am, the students became victims of the egging attack. A passer-by had called the police to report the incident, but little was done about it. Moreover, a University security car passed the scene. The victims informed them of the event, and were told that the police would look into it. Nothing has been said since.
One of the victims of this attack expects that “they’re going to end up egging someone or a group of guys a lot bigger and less patient with them than most of the other people who got egged.” The victim warned that “people should report it if it happens to them, and out-of-hours security should definitely keep an eye out.”
Similar events have been reported on the travellator, near another one of the University’s hall of residence, St Regulus. In the case of the first attack, the group could have been making a personal attack on the University students; possibly revenge for having the police been called on them the first time.

But other stellar black holes siphon material from companion stars, and this exchange of matter releases bright X-rays that can be spotted through telescopes.
The wobbling movement of an old giant star in the Aquila constellation revealed that it was in an orbital dance with a dormant black hole, and it’s the third such dormant black hole spotted by Gaia.
The researchers used the European Southern Observatory’s Very Large Telescope in Chile’s Atacama Desert and other ground-based observatories to confirm the mass of Gaia BH3, and their study has also offered new clues to how such huge black holes came to be. The findings appeared Tuesday in the journal Astronomy & Astrophysics.
“No one was expecting to find a high-mass black hole lurking nearby, undetected so far,” said lead study author Pasquale Panuzzo, an astronomer at the Observatoire de Paris, part of France’s National Centre for Scientific Research, and a Gaia collaboration member, in a statement. “This is the kind of discovery you make once in your research life.”
