In Search of the Perfect Capsule Wardrobe

Let’s end the ‘I have nothing to wear’ once and for all.

If I had a pound for every time I opened my wardrobe and felt like I had nothing to wear, I’d have enough money to buy a whole new wardrobe (well, almost). But on closer inspection, my wardrobe is full of options. What about that knit jumper- when I bought it, I thought it would go with everything. Or that striped shirt- surely that’s a versatile classic? So why do I never wear either of these, and a whole host of other clothes besides? It’s because they seem stale, boring. I buy something, and within months, it loses its charm. There are only a few items that I consistently turn to and have been wearing for years.

A growing trend suggests that maybe a capsule wardrobe is the way to go. A capsule wardrobe consists of a small selection of key pieces, that can be interchanged to create a variety of outfits. Long story short, for me, that means a serious downsize. But perhaps a capsule wardrobe is not without its advantages, no matter how difficult it may be to let go of some prized items.

With so many international students at St Andrews, I cannot be alone in the termly struggle that is transporting my clothes from place to place. At the end of the summer, I was faced with a full wardrobe and one empty suitcase- it was a no brainer, it wasn’t all going to fit. Despondently, I began to sort through my clothes- did I really need that extra jumper? Would I wear those boots enough? Slowly but surely, the weight of my suitcase decreased. And when I unpacked in St Andrews, I felt a lot better about it. I didn’t miss many of the clothes I’d left behind. Maybe this condensed wardrobe really was all I needed.

So here’s my plan for the coming year. I want to reduce the size of my wardrobe even further, so that I consistently wear a small selection of key, stand-out pieces, rather than leaving half my clothes dusty and unworn. I’m hoping that this will not only have considerable advantages for my student budget (no more hurried H&M trips), but that if I do buy clothes, I will be investing in pieces that I know I’ll wear time and time again. So if, like me, your wardrobe is in need of a refresh, perhaps it’s time for a clear-out. Let’s end the ‘I have nothing to wear’ once and for all. Maybe a capsule wardrobe is the way forward.

  19. A fascinating discussion is worth comment. I do think that you ought to write more about this subject matter, it might not be a taboo subject but generally folks don’t discuss such issues. To the next! Best wishes.

  20. What I have observed in terms of laptop or computer memory is that there are technical specs such as SDRAM, DDR etc, that must fit in with the specs of the mother board. If the pc’s motherboard is fairly current and there are no operating-system issues, improving the ram literally usually takes under sixty minutes. It’s on the list of easiest personal computer upgrade procedures one can think about. Thanks for discussing your ideas.

  21. I do not even understand how I ended up right here, but I thought this submit was once good. I don’t understand who you might be but certainly you are going to a famous blogger when you are not already 😉 Cheers!

  23. I’ve noticed that credit improvement activity has to be conducted with tactics. If not, you may find yourself causing harm to your position. In order to grow into success fixing your credit rating you have to ascertain that from this moment you pay your monthly fees promptly prior to their appointed date. It is really significant since by not accomplishing this, all other methods that you will decide to try to improve your credit position will not be efficient. Thanks for revealing your concepts.

  24. Thanks for your publication. I would also like to comment that the first thing you will need to do is find out if you really need credit repair. To do that you will have to get your hands on a duplicate of your credit history. That should really not be difficult, since government mandates that you are allowed to have one no cost copy of your credit report annually. You just have to inquire the right men and women. You can either check out the website for the Federal Trade Commission and also contact one of the leading credit agencies specifically.

  25. One thing is always that one of the most common incentives for using your credit cards is a cash-back or rebate supply. Generally, you get 1-5 back on various purchases. Depending on the credit card, you may get 1 back again on most expenditures, and 5 back on buying made going to convenience stores, filling stations, grocery stores and also ‘member merchants’.

  26. Thanks for your blog post. Some tips i would like to make contributions about is that computer system memory must be purchased if your computer cannot cope with what you do by using it. One can add two good old ram boards with 1GB each, in particular, but not one of 1GB and one with 2GB. One should make sure the car maker’s documentation for own PC to make sure what type of memory is required.

  27. Hi there, simply turned into aware of your weblog through Google, and found that it’s truly informative. I?m gonna watch out for brussels. I will appreciate when you proceed this in future. Numerous other folks will probably be benefited out of your writing. Cheers!

  29. Hey! Quick question that’s entirely off topic. Do you know how to make your site mobile friendly? My website looks weird when viewing from my iphone 4. I’m trying to find a template or plugin that might be able to correct this problem. If you have any recommendations, please share. Thank you!
