Committees Show Their Support for FS

Sitara, Catwalk, and DONT WALK have all released statements advocating against refunds.

On Saturday, the St Andrews Charity Fashion Show was cancelled due to poor weather conditions. After a day of uncertainty, the show has been rescheduled for Tuesday 14th February.

The decision prompted many guests to request refunds, citing scheduling conflicts, deadlines, or exhaustion. This indifference is a marked departure from the excitement felt around town on Saturday morning.

The DONT WALK Charity Fashion Show, viewed as FS’s most significant competitor, released a statement of support earlier this evening:

DONT WALK would like to offer its support to the St Andrews Charity Fashion Show following the unfortunate events on Saturday night.

We know more than anyone how much work and planning goes into creating the high calibre of events St Andrews is so famous for. From the hours spent by models rehearsing, to the countless meetings with designers and sponsors, these events mark the culmination of a year’s hard work.

We would urge you to think carefully before requesting a refund on your ticket and stand by your fellow students whose mission for the last 12 months has been to maximise your enjoyment.

Less than an hour later, DONT WALK was joined by Sitara and Catwalk, both of whom echoed the sentiments behind the original statement. Sitara reminded guests that there is “more than just a show at stake,” considering FS’s charitable goals. Similarly, Catwalk advised the community to “remember the charitable nature of FS” before returning their tickets.

While certain scheduling conflicts cannot be avoided, it is disheartening to see so many students throwing in the towel. St Andreans can drink for over twelve straight hours on Raisin Sunday, and still make the foam fight the next morning. Last year, we ran into the sea at 5 am, then hit up May Ball that very night. Surely we can handle a Tuesday on Lower College Lawn.

Last year, the St Andrews Charity Fashion Show donated £30,000 to SANE, their chosen charity for the year. This donation relies on the strength of ticket sales, meaning that every single guest has contributed to FS’s success.

This year FS has partnered with the Brain Tumour Charity. Before requesting a refund on the basis of “the hype being gone,” remember who you’re taking money from.

Ticket sales and wristband collection will be held at the Beacon Bar from 11 am – 3 pm on Tuesday 14th.
