A year ago it was embarrassing to use the app TikTok. Not many people used it, and if they did, people thought it was ‘cringy’.

Then came Coronavirus. People were looking for a new entertainment source of entertainment because even Netflix can get repetitive after a few months. TikTok’s downloads exploded, and it became mainstream to have an account. The app caters to many different audiences and offers videos that range from infamous TikTok dances over astrology and comedy to fashion content. The fashion content led to many trends, selling out items around the world and making new aesthetics so popular.

1: Zara’s High Rise Wide-Leg Full-Length Jeans

You may ask, why are they so popular? According to TikTok, they have a great length and really cinched waist. They are the perfect fit for the trendy look of wide jeans. Another bonus is their versatility. If you want them to look casual and oversized, you can just add a chunky sweater, some sneakers, and gold jewelry. But for dinner (at home lol) you can just exchange the sneakers for heels and wear a silk camisole under a leather blazer. And voilà you have achieved not only one, but two trendy and cool outfits.

2: Y2K Aesthetic

This aesthetic has been around for a few years but has been having a huge moment on TikTok. It is reminiscent of the Paris Hilton 2000s style. In order to pull this off, you need coloured small tank tops, low-rise jeans (add a visible thong if you dare), or, of course, velour Juicy Couture tracksuits. For accessories, think of funky hairstyles with colourful clips. This era is all about bold colours and looking trashy chic.

3: The Amazon Corset

Along with many other items, corsets have become all the rage on TikTok. They are vintage-inspired and can be worn in many ways. For a more covered look, you can layer them above a flowy dress, which cinches in your waist and gives you an hourglass silhouette. If you are looking for something a little bit more risqué, just wear the corset alone with wide-leg trousers or even a skirt. They really help to enhance your curves and make you look like you’re straight out of Bridgerton.

In addition to corsets generally being a trend, one corset especially has been making the rounds: the ‘Amazon Corset’. Usually, when you think of Amazon, you don’t think of their great fashion items, but they do have rare finds, one of them being this corset. People are baffled to find a cheap alternative to corsets, which are typically tailor-made, and are loving it.

4: Knee-High Boots

Knee-high boots have become a very popular TikTok accessory this past year. They are the perfect addition to dresses or skirts and give your outfit character. The Over-the-knee-boot trend has been over for a while, and there has not been a proper replacement until now! People are loving this trend; in my opinion, it makes your outfit more sophisticated and chic. They are the perfect addition to your shoe collection. You can go for the simple black or brown or find pastel coloured ones for a fun pop of colour!

5: TikTok Leggings

TikTok has been the source of legging trends. 15 seconds can make an entire country buy out a style of leggings. The first leggings to gain fame this year on Tiktok were the Aerie cross-over leggings. Because of the curved waistband, your waist seems smaller compared to your hips, giving you the ‘desired’ hourglass figure. They cinch you in and give the illusion of a smaller waist.

In the last few weeks, another pair of Amazon leggings have been making the rounds. The appeal of these leggings is the extreme cinch in the butt area, making your butt seem plumper and more round. This again feeds into the ‘hourglass’ body shape and has made many girls feel very confident in their bodies.
