An explanation.

This past year, many of you have witnessed the Stand’s transformation from a semi-satirical news publication to a tabloid devoid of journalistic integrity. As editor of the Stand for the 2015-2016 school year, I experienced firsthand the deterioration of the publication’s credibility, as years of reporting were eroded in the sands of Tab propaganda. Soon the final vestiges of what was once the Stand were cast off, revealing the mottled face of the Tab St Andrews.

Tabloids have their place in the world. The Sun released the now iconic Hiddleswift Beach Photos, and the Tab itself broke the story of Malia Obama’s college choice (Harvard, for anyone who cares). For news that is quick, light, and mostly harmless, tabloids are ideal.

The Stand was not established as a tabloid.

The Stand was established as a source of news and entertainment, a series of tongue-in-cheek observations of the town that we love to tease. The site posted content daily thanks to the efforts of a sprawling team of editors and staff writers, attracting upwards of 20,000 visitors each week. The publication was as St Andrean as red gowns and champagne receptions, and we loved it.

The Tab St Andrews will continue to reside within its own journalistic corner of the web, but that corner will no longer be shared by the Stand. We were founded as an independent publication, and we will remain that way.
