Opening Ball Prepares to Open the School Year

Begin your St Andrews experience with style.

Incoming first years will have been warned to pack their ballgowns and bowties, a necessary precaution in anticipation of the infamous St Andrews ball circuit. There is no better introduction to four years of black tie debauchery than Opening Ball, organised annually by the ladies and gentlemen of the Kate Kennedy Club.

Held this year on Saturday 7 October, the event will provide the school year’s inaugural glimpse of Lower College Lawn in all its marqueed finery, a stunning new sight for first year students. As with all KKC events, the ball is held to benefit the club’s chosen charities.

Spearheaded by convenor Isabela Campos de Almeida, Opening Ball is characterised by traditions old and new. A champagne reception will pair nicely with free Jannettas ice cream, savoured alongside other complimentary treats. After eating their fill, guests can continue to the marquee dancefloor, or move to slightly closer quarters in the “house” tent outside. This small tent, having proven popular last year, will be expanded to include an extra bar, offering fans of club style music an escape from the bustle of the main stage.

Tickets will go on sale Saturday 2 September via the Union website.
